Raku to you!

Greetings from Sheldon Ganstrom.  Raku to you!  The word raku orginates from Japan and suggests the enjoyment of freedom or pleasure.  I hope my work brings beauty and pleasure into your life. I am a studio artist working in post reduction fired ceramics or American raku.  For the last thirty years, I have pretty much lived, eaten and breathed art and ceramics.  Working from my studio in Hays, Kansas, I have traveled about a half million miles to exhibitions, festivals and wholesale event. This last decade, I have traveled extensively with my wife, artist Linda Ganstrom to China, Europe and throughout the United States gathering ideas and inspiration for my work.

Strecker-Nelson Exhibition 2013

Starting out the New Year preparing for an exhibition at the Strecker-Nelson Gallery in Manhattan, Kansas is a treat.  I plan to exhibit around fifteen new works in this beautiful space.  I am currently working on groupings of tea bowls in wall shadow boxes.

The opening reception is Friday, January 18 at 406 1/2 Poyntz Avenue in Manhattan, Kansas.  Jay and Barbara Nelson always host a fabulous party with great food and tasty beverages in addition to the great art.  You are most warmly invited to join us for a wonderful evening full of art and conversation.
